Two board-certified gastroenterologists have joined Valley Medical Group (VMG), diagnostic, treatment, and management services for patients with gastrointestinal diseases and disorders. Valley welcomes Sita Chokhavatia, M.D., and Jennifer Hsieh, M.D., to the VMG-Gastroenterology office at 140 Chestnut St., Suite 200, in Ridgewood, N.J.
Dr. Chokhavatia brings more than 30 years of experience in gastroenterology to VMG, a component of Valley Health System, which also encompasses The Valley Hospital and Valley Home Care. She has had a distinguished career in academic and clinical medicine as a faculty member of Texas Tech University, Seton Hall University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Chokhavatia received her medical degree from Seth G.S. Medical College in Bombay, India, and she completed a residency (chief resident) in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Jersey City Medical Center.
Board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and geriatric medicine, Dr. Chokhavatia is skilled in providing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, esophageal motility, and pH/impedance tests. She has special expertise in diagnosing and treating esophageal motility disorders. Dr. Chokhavatia’s research has culminated in more than 120 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters; she has served on several editorial boards and acted as a peer reviewer. She is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Gastroenterology, and is a member of several of these organizations’ committees. Dr. Chokhavatia’s community service includes participating in local health fairs, lecturing to women’s groups, contributing to Sharecare’s interactive health and wellness platform, and volunteering at a Coney Island medical clinic for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Dr. Hsieh is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She joins Valley Medical Group after completing an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in June 2016. In addition to providing comprehensive medical care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders using the full scope of diagnostic and interventional GI endoscopic services, she has special expertise in performing biliary endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. Her clinical research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed medical journals and at poster presentations around the United States.
Dr. Hsieh received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. She completed an internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was chief fellow and conference chief. Throughout her academic career, she received several awards for her teaching excellence and research, including a Merck Investigator Studies Program Grant.
