Valley and the Borough of Paramus Hold Heart Health Awareness Event for Volunteer Firefighters

Following the death in September of Former Paramus Fire Chief Sean Benson, Sr., age 50, concerns about a sudden death among someone so young and apparently healthy prompted the Borough Health Department and Volunteer Firefighters to initiate an effort to raise awareness about heart disease, the number one cause of death among men and women.

On Monday, November 9th, Mary C. Collins, Director of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Specialty Programs at The Valley Hospital, made a presentation about heart health to borough volunteer fire fighters. The presentation included information about The Valley Hospital’s free heart risk screening program and an opportunity to schedule an appointment for screening.

Shown at the presentation (from left to right) are Judy Migliaccio, Director of the Paramus Health Department; Deputy Fire Chief John Niland; Assistant Fire Chief Pat Proctor; Department Chief Craig Burrows; Mary Collins; and Guy Picone, Emergency Management Coordinator.
